Welcome to St. Jacques – Coomb’s Cove

The Town of St. Jacques – Coomb’s Cove was formed in 1972 through the amalgamation of six distinct communities, including St. Jacques, English Harbour West, Mose Ambrose, Boxey, Coomb’s Cove, and Wreck Cove. This town continues to offer a glimpse into the past while embracing modern life.

Originally established as seasonal fishing stations in the 1700s, these communities have deep-rooted ties to the inshore and offshore fishery. The fishing industry, with its reliance on cod, herring, lobster, and salmon, once drove the local economy. Later, the advent of trawler fisheries and the influence of companies like the Newman Company from London expanded economic horizons.

Today, this rural community welcomes visitors with open arms, offering serene walking/hiking trails, sandy beaches, a Parks Canada Heritage Lighthouse, and breathtaking views. Its communities each have their offerings and attractions, including amenities like grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, a K-12 school, automotive repair shops, accommodations, and fishing enterprises. St. Jacques – Coomb’s Cove invites you to experience its natural beauty, tranquility, and hospitality.
