Welcome to Belleoram

Along the shores of Fortune Bay you’ll find Belleoram, a quaint village with a distinct charm. Cradled between steep hills and the bay, the community boasts a spacious harbor shielded by a natural breakwater.

Belleoram’s history dates back to 1774, with origins as “Bande de Laurier” used by the French. Captain Tavenor’s 1718 voyage led to the naming of “Belorme’s Place,” while a 17th-century French adventurer coined the community’s current name. English settlers like Parsons and John Cluett contributed to the village’s growth, joined by others from western England.

Key attractions include the Anglican Church, often dubbed the “Cathedral of the South Coast,” built in 1891, and the John Cluett Heritage House, a testament to the simplicity of early settlers’ architecture. Embrace the Ironskull Folk Festival, a yearly gathering of Newfoundland artists celebrating local music and culture. To top it off, hike the trail to Ironskull Mountain for panoramic views of the picturesque coastline. Belleoram, steeped in history and enriched by community and nature, offers a true Newfoundland experience.
