Welcome to Leading Tickles

Leading Tickles is a quaint fishing community on Newfoundland’s North East Coast. Its fish plant, primarily focused on cod, Snow crab, and lobster fishing, alongside occasional catches of mackerel, herring, squid, and caplin, provides local employment. The town features a K-3 school and two churches, St. Nicholas Anglican and Abundant Life Pentecostal.

During the summer, tourism plays a pivotal role, with Oceanview Park drawing visitors of all ages. The park boasts 21 campsites all set against a backdrop of three beautiful beaches along the ocean. Hiking enthusiasts can explore the town’s walking trails, including one leading to Ocean View Park, offering rest stops and an old Methodist Cemetery, a recognized historical heritage site. The East Tickle Nature Trail leads to a beach and remnants of past habitation, featuring an old Catholic Cemetery, also a designated historical heritage site.

A historical treasure in Leading Tickles is the Jack Ward Memorial Heritage Centre, housed in the oldest known standing structure in Notre Dame Bay. This two-story building served as a general store and the Ward family’s home. Today, visitors can enjoy a coffee on the large deck overlooking the harbor, honoring the town’s maritime heritage.
